Reel push lawn mowers not just for the home lawn

Reel push lawn mowers have another great application in small businesses, municipal services and lawn care companies. In using these reel lawn mowers you will save money in several different ways, help be green, safer, and possibility to attract new customers.
I have a friend that runs a small accounting firm. He has a strip of grass in the front of his business and a small square in the back for a break area. He was paying someone $3200 a year to take care of this for him. I talked him in to purchasing a reel push lawn mower in the $289.00 range to take care of this.
What work’s great for him is several things.
  • One the reel push lawn mower uses no gas or oil. There is no worry of where to store fuel and your hands stay clean.
  • There is minimum liability with reel push lawn mowers because of no danger of flying sticks or rocks.
  • Because reel push lawn mowers are quite mowing can be done any time of day without disruption.
  • Reel push lawn mower helps in being green and most of his customers like this.

  • He has a couple of employee’s that find this very rewarding to get away from the desk and spend a few minutes mowing the grass.
In the lawn care business some of the same thing holds true and more. They are not for every job but great for some, you weigh the different.
  • Using these reel push lawn mowers helps you to be green. This is a great way to help advertise your business and your customer can use it also. In some cases you may be able to charge more for being green.
  • For the fast food customer where you are mostly mowing small mediums these are great. Once again the reel lawn mower doesn’t throw rocks or sticks so you have less liability.
  • Reel push lawn mowers are quite and will not disturb the customers.
  • With reel push lawn mowers small areas you won’t have the tire tracks left in the grass like when these are mowed with zero turn machines.
  • Be able to carry less equipment to the job site. No trailer needed.
  • Save time because you can put a reel push lawn mower in the back of a small pickup with on gas or oil to spill. This will save time finding a place to park with a trailer, time in loading and unloading and waiting for customers to clear the area.
These reel push lawn mowers are not going to be for every job or every business but they do offer you the opportunity to save some money. I think you will be surprised on how your employees will enjoy using a reel push lawn mower.
It is worth taking a look at what your business has to mow and cost. The better reel push lawn mowers that would handle more abuse are $289.00 to $300.00.

Thinking of Spring

Now is the time of the year to be thinking about a green Lawn for next year. Mantis has what you need to get started with detaching and aerating your lawn. Most people wait until spring but the fall is best because their is no weed competition and temperatures are cooler. Once you get that old thatch removed spread some fresh seed. Use a good blended mix and get it out 30 days before frost starts. If you have questions about your lawn use feed back or e-mail me at cut4reel@greatmower.com.

With the Mantis tiller you should also be thinking about those Hostas that need slitting or other spring bulbs. With the Mantis tiller lightweight you can get in those flower beds and loosen up the soil for easy planting.

I myself like being green with the Mantis electric tiller. It fits the size of my yard and will do everything a bigger tiller will do. When I'm planting and slitting flower I won't trade my Mantis electric tiller for anything. It is great for working around other plants in beds or tilling my garden in spring.

Review or the Gilmour Lawn Reel Mower

With my experience with the Gilmour lawn reel mower starts with the look of American made quality. Its powder coat finish and metal design looks and feels great. This reel lawn mower is heaver then some reel mowers of today because of its quality construction but is still lighter in weight then others. When the Gilmore is adjusted correctly pushes very easy.
I also like the 20" width design to get the job done and the wheels in the rear to help mower straight. Its 5 blade reel was great at getting the combine effect of pulling the grass into it. This worked well on Blue Grass and Rye. I don't have a the ability of trying this lawn reel mower on other grasses at this time.
With the Gilmour and all the mowers I try out, I ran a file across the front edge of the bedknife to remove any paint and to make sure it is sharp. Then test it on long wet grass. I was satisfied with the cut that I received from the Gilmour lawn reel mower.

Review of the Mascot 18 inch Lawn Reel Mower

The Mascot or Silent Cut lawn reel mower is American designed and engineered. This lawn reel mower was manufactured overseas under strict standards of the Amish suppliers but in my book still has that made in America genuine quality. In the Amish shop they personally sharpen, lubricate and adjust each lawn reel mower before shipping. They do manufacture frames to make 3 gang reel mowers that can be pulled by horses.
A couple of things that I know about the Amish is their passion for hand made quality in machinery and furniture. This still exists today. The other thing is that in the Amish community it is up to the woman of the house to keep up the standards of the house and yard.
The Mascot lawn reel mower being ten pounds heaver then most of the lawn reel mowers of today favored by the Amish to be operated by a woman. This mower is designed with new technology as it is called the Silent Cut. This makes this push reel mower very easy to push.
I also like how the wheels were designed a little wider then most lawn reel mowers. This helps with traction and helps to hold the compaction down to a minimum. This more true when you are cutting wet grass which it does very well.
The roller on the back is made of a single piece ploy with rounded ends to prevent grooving. I like the way it stripes the grass as I mow.
I have read that this lawn reel mower works well on Bermuda or St Augustine with its 6 blade reel. This lawn mower does an excellent job of cutting Blue grass and Rye grasses.

How I Got My Thirteen Year Old Daughter to Mow the Lawn

Goes without saying I have a thirteen year old girl. Like most teens it is tough to get them to do anything. I'm a single parent and my daughter is modeling clothes. That is a lot to say in one sentence but think you get the idea.
I had trouble getting her to help out until I purchased a lawn reel mower. One day she was in the yard as I was mowing and I stopped to pick up some sticks. When I turned around she was mowing and has been ever since.
Because of a lawn reel mowers quite, light weight and safe operation my daughter really enjoys mowing our yard. She can get it off the hanger in the garage and mow at her own convenience. Sometimes mows half of the yard and sometimes all at once. If you have a yard or lawn under or around 10,000 sq.ft. this is truly the way to enjoy mowing your yard.
Since this day we have been working together to get chores done and finding new ways to get enjoyment out of these task. Working together has aloud us time to find new ways to enjoy life and our time together.
My hope to the reader of this article is that if you are in a simulator situation you fine that one thing that sparks your new beginning as we did. If it is a lawn reel mower or something else I wish you a lot of luck and hope in finding that.
